Amazing Pakistani Scholars
Abdul Wadood Khan

Islamic Banking is not a new concept now and for decades, active research by leading scholars both Muslim and Non-mulsims has helped shape this form of banking. Idea is to get rid of riba or interest and offer interest-free banking in line with Islamic principles. Even after a lot of research in the area, Islamic Banking has its share of critics who continue to point out serious system flaws in Islamic Banking terming it not purely Islamic. Abdul Wadood Khan, a Pakistani scholar dedicated his life, wealth and all his energy right to his last breath in raising voice against Riba and championing the cause of what he regarded as "Real Islamic Banking". He carefully analyzed the lacunas in Islamic Banking system and proposed an innovative system which he believed would eradicate the menace of Riba from Islamic Economic system. His struggle took him to plea against Interest-based banking in Supreme court of Pakistan and he continued to raise his awareness with all his energy.
Abdul Wadood Khan remained an unsung hero and champion of a cause that is at heart of developing a true Islamic society. His service to Islamic Banking is not limited only for Pakistan but for all the Muslim world.
Today, his cause is led by Al Ilm trust which works aggressively in developing foundations of a genuine Islamic Banking and Economics system. His own work can be seen on the website (www.realislamicbanking.com) he started in his own life.
Here is A tribute (an Urdu newspaper column) to Abdul Wadood Khan by leading Pakistani columnist, Mr Orya Maqbool Jan.
