Adbus Sattar Edhi known as Edhi among masses is simply an amazing human being. He has achieved in his lifetime what generations couldn’t achieve for this country. Today, he is running a foundation which is managing network of world’s largest private ambulance service. His selflessness is reflected in his lifestyle as he is found clad in a typical simple shalwar kameez and can be seen working alongside his team in different offices and locations all over country particularly in distress situations. If you see this man in real life one cannot believe that his is a global personality and a recipient of awards like Lenin Peace Prize, Ramon Magsaysay Award (also termed as Asia’s Nobel Price), Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Pakistan’s highest civil award) as well as honorary PhDs from IBA Karachi and University of Bedfordshire, UK. Another unique fact about Edhi is that he is not alone in his struggle as his wife, Bilquis Edhi has stood by him all along and has worked equally hard to make his noble cause a success. She has led a very simple life and their children are no exception. They all live in a small two room apartment which is part of one of their orphanages in Karachi. In July 2016, Abdus Sattar Edhi passed away. The nation went into mourning. Outpouring of love and respect for Dr Abdus Sattar Edhi came from all quarters. He was buried with a state funeral with military honors - an honor accorded to very few personalities in history of the country. Abdus Sattar Edhi passed away but his mission, his organization will live on for the service of humanity. Pakistan and its people can never thank enough to Edhi and his family for their devoted services and they will always be an inspiration as Amazing Pakistani. |
