Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas

A prominent Kashmiri leader, Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas was among the first few Kashmiri leaders who raised the voice for Kashmir's affiliation with Pakistan. He along with Sardar Ibrahim fought for Kashmir's cause internationally including the United Nations. He was a close associate of Quaid-e-Azam and remained loyal to Pakistan till his death in 1964 at the age of 63 years.
Earlier in his political career, he was a symbol of hope for Kashmiris as he vehemently decried the Dogra rule in Kashmir and fought for rights of Muslim Kashmiris. He was imprisoned for championing the cause of Kashmir's affiliation with Pakistan and was set free in 1948. At that time, he met with Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and other Kashmiri leadership. He was also one of the founding leaders of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK).
Even today, Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas is revered among Kashmiris as a symbol of hope for getting their right to plebiscite as promised by the United Nations Resolutions.
