Liaqat Ali Khan

The first Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Liaqat Ali Khan is a towering personality in Pakistani politics and in freedom movement of Pakistan. He was a close associate of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Founder of Pakistan and worked tirelessly with him as a senior leader of Muslim League both before and after Pakistan came into being in 1947.
Liaqat Ali Khan had earlier persuaded Mr. Jinnah to come back to India and work in freedom movement and later he was closely involved as Pakistan movement evolved and grew. He was appointed Minister of Finance in United India's government shortly before independence from British rule.
After assuming charge of Prime Minister of newly born nation, Pakistan, Liaqat Ali Khan worked hard on several fronts. He worked to develop foreign policy and ensured that country dissociates itself clearly with communism and socialism. He also worked on Objective Resolution which is said to be a foundation document for Pakistan's constitution.
Liaqat Ali Khan was a brave and courageous leader who had clear vision and continued to serve the country as a true leader after the country lost its founder hardly one year after its independence.
Liaqat Ali Khan was martyred on October 16, 1951 while he was addressing a public gathering in Rawalpindi.
